Long gone are the days in which profit was the single most important thing a business owner pursued. More and more business leaders are recognizing that their responsibility not only lies with their shareholders and executives, but also with the people, the planet, and society at large. At LACO, we want to do our thing for society as we work hard for profit, people and planet.

Giving back to Belgium

As a Belgian-based business and data intelligence company with over 30 years of experience, our Corporate Social Responsibility is highly Belgium-centered. Till this day, LACO remains a family business at its core. Still owned by founders Hubert Meersmans and Willem Compernolle, the commitment to ‘giving back’ is higher than ever.

A time to rebuild

In July 2021, due to very heavy rainfall, the Walloon region was faced with an unprecedented rise in water levels, affecting 9 out of 10 Walloon municipalities. The water may have subsided since then, but that does not mean it took the problems with it. Many people, businesses, and organizations are still rebuilding to this day.

A school on a human scale

One of those organizations is Institut Jean XXIII in Rochefort. Institut Jean XXIII educates children throughout their entire school period with a pre-school, primary, middle and high school. It’s a school on a human scale in which each student is supported and guided in his or her learning by a team of over seventy teachers and educators.

The floods in the summer of 2021 hit them hard, making it almost impossible for them to maintain their high level of education. Eager to be back up and running for the 100%, the school indicated their needs and got in contact with the Lions Club and LACO.

Round one: a truckload of chairs

In October 2021, LACO ensured that the next generation of data experts kept a seat at the table, and offered them a truckload of chairs. From preparing, to transport to delivery, LACO’s employees proved that data intelligence consultants can do more than crunch data all day. That day, they used elbow grease to help out those in need: the school, teachers and students of Institut Jean XXIII.

Round two: Vitra cabinets

In April 2022, LACO was proud to announce a second round of helping where it helps. Facilitated by Lions Club Elsdonk and with Vitra as furniture partner, this time around, we offered them high-quality cabinets to keep their newly acquired school supplies dry, organized and safe.

The fight for a better planet

Next to people, LACO is also focused on the fight for a better planet. Using cutting-edge data science technologies, we worked out a sustainable business approach for the aviation industry to combat food waste and the wasted fuel to transport 6.1 million tons of unnecessary food. Check it out!

We stand behind our business model, by which we operate in ways that enhance society. And we will continue to do so long into the future.
